Bluewater Bay is a planned community in Okaloosa County, 5 minutes from Niceville, Florida, and just 15 minutes from Destin. The development started selling homes in the early 1980s, so we have an established community – or rather, several established communities.
People outside of Florida often think that the phrase “white sandy beaches” is an exaggeration – that we just mean the sand is pale. We know better.
Residents come here either after visiting Destin and deciding to stay nearby, but not on top of the crowds, or they arrive because of military transfers from Eglin Air Force Base, Duke Field, or Hurlburt Field. While they may transfer to other locations, the community lures them back for retirement.
No wonder! Bluewater Bay includes three (3!) swimming pools, tennis, golf, a bayfront marina, lakes, parks, playgrounds, and walking parks. For families, there are schools and playgrounds. Everyone can enjoy recreation areas, green belts, restaurants, or other businesses.
The Mid-Bay Bridge spans the Choctawhatchee Bay; it makes the trip between Bluewater Bay and Destin/Miramar Beach scenic and easy; it is a toll bridge, but the tolls keep the bridge well maintained.
