What is Industrial Construction?
Industrial construction concerns the planning, building and maintenance of highly-specialized buildings used for industrial processes like manufacturing, production, and engineering. These industries, and these buildings, keep our economy going.
Industrial buildings often support heavy equipment for the intended operation and are not public facing. They’re built for functionality, not style. Most projects go through an in-depth permitting period before construction begins.
Common Examples of Industrial Construction
Examples of industrial construction:
- Factories.
- Warehouses.
- Manufacturing facilities.
- Power plants.
- Refineries.
- Distribution centers and warehouses.
- Mechanical and structural components for these facilities.
These facilities are typically divided into two types:
Manufacturing. These buildings are built to support the large, capital-intensive equipment needed to produce goods and materials. They often include a three-phase electric power supply to run the machinery and heavy ductwork, ventilation and exhaust systems to eliminate harmful chemicals and fumes inside the facility.
Warehouse and distribution. Often single-story with high ceilings, with loading docks, large garage doors and parking lots than can accommodate large trucks.
