Non-Bearing Wall

A part of a structure not supporting anything, typically inside a structure, carrying only its own weight. Non-bearing walls (also called “partition walls” and “non-load bearing walls”) are typically used as a barrier or divider, not a support. You can remove non-bearing walls since they’re not responsible for the support of your property.

Example: Non-bearing walls can be identified by looking at the joists and rafters in your basement or attic. If they run parallel to the wall, it’s most likely a non-bearing wall.
