Bioremediation

The breaking down of pollutants and contaminants into nontoxic or less-toxic substances using microorganisms (such as bacteria).

Examples: Bioremediation can be effective in cases of oil spills, contaminated groundwater, industrial processes, crime scene cleanup, and other events—reducing pollutants and their damaging effects. Bioremediation often proves to be very cost-effective.
