Authon is known to be a very small town, with a surprisingly small population of only 15 people! The town of Authon, originally named Arthur, and founded with a population of 75. This town was founded for the farming community, made up of schools, churches, and a cotton gin. Unfortunately the cotton gin is no longer operational. Authon is such a tiny town, the Postal Service was discontinued in 1904 due to the decreasing population, and everything is now routed through the City of Weatherford Post Office. Authon was known to be popular spot for up and coming farmers, as they were close to the city to be able to trade and sell their hides, grains, and animals, but also be rural enough to have the space to grow their livestock and crops. Authon is still known for being a tight knit rural community today!
