Rocky Top is known for its beautiful mountains and small, but friendly community. The weather is typically warm and humid in the summer and warm in the winter. Rocky Top has a rich history dating back to the American Revolutionary War. History of Rocky Top
After the 1798 Treaty of Tellico, this area of Tennessee became open for settlement, and many settlers came to the area. The area was known as Coal Creek. It remained that name through the 19th century. After the completion of Norris Dam, an artificial lake named Norris Lake was created, and the town took up the name Lake City. It wasn't until 2013 that a business group proposed the name Rocky Top while building a water park nearby. In 2014, the name was officially changed, and the waterpark is still in construction.
