New Underwood (Lakota: "new undergrowth") is a city in Pennington County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 590 at the 2020 Census. New Underwood got its start circa 1906. The city was named for John Underwood, a cattleman. Until 2017, it was home to the world’s smallest biker bar, which is now closed. As of the census of 2010, there were 660 people, 248 households, and 162 families living in the city. The population density was 660.0 inhabitants per square mile (254.8/km2). There were 280 housing units at an average density of 280.0 per square mile. SERVPRO serves any household or business with fire damage restoration, water restoration, or mold mitigation. Known as the "Gateway to the Black Hills" and the "City of Presidents" The public discovery of gold in 1874 by the Black Hills Expedition, led by George Armstrong Custer, brought a mass influx of European-American miners and settlers into this region of the Dakota Territory. A group of unsuccessful miners founded Rapid City in 1876, trying to create other chances; they promoted their new city as the "Gateway to the Black Hills." My 2015 Ford Explorer Sport sat outside for 8 weeks during Covid19. I didn't need to drive. When I finally started it I found that a packrat or mouse had died into the vehicle's air system. It was undrivable. I mean, it literally was a health hazard. I worked with American Family Insurance. I have full coverage and they suggested SERVPRO. It took several weeks but that was fine. SERVPRO killed the smell plus found three more dead mice under the battery. My beautiful Explorer is perfectly clean now. It looks brand new and now I can enjoy driving it again. What a relief! Thank you SERVPRO and thank goodness I had full coverage insurance with American Family Insurance who was very good about this whole ordeal. Hallelujah.
