The Village of Tobaccoville is located in the northwest corner of Forsyth County in North Carolina. It was named after a chewing tobacco company that operated there in the 1870s. The area, which is now known as Tobaccoville, was also on the stagecoach mail route. Once the area was suggested for an actual post office, the name Tobaccoville was suggested since the tobacco company was widely known in the area. Later, when the railroad was built, the post office moved closer to the train station.
People came from all around on Sunday afternoons just to see who arrived by train, and the village became a popular gathering spot.
In 1991 The Village of Tobaccoville became incorporated to prevent forced annexation from larger neighboring cities but, more importantly, to maintain its identity and protect its heritage. And one of the things they love to do on Friday nights is to sit under the lights and watch their beloved North Forsyth Vikings charge their way to victory. Then, after the game, celebrate their win at one of the local eateries.
