Petersburg Indiana was laid out in 1817 and was named after the original owner of the town site, Peter Brenton. The post office was not in operation until 1823. In 2010 the census stated that the population of Petersburg Indiana was 2,383 people. Petersburg is a beautiful town with a wonderful community of people!
Industry for the city is very important. Located two miles from down town is a coal-fired power-plant called Indianapolis Power & Light (IPL)'s Petersburg Generating Station. Not only do they have this close to downtown but they also have two coal mines within ten miles of Petersburg Indiana. You could easily say that they are a coal mining community.
Petersburg has many other things to offer including a wonderful public library called Pike County Public Library. Many notable people have come from Petersburg, a few of the most popular include Jody Davis who is a guitarist for the Newsboys, Joe Wyatt a professional baseball player, and Clyde Lovellette a professional basketball player.

One year ago this month my basement flooded. My insurance agent stopped by and called SERVPRO of Vincinnes right away!! They were there the next morning early and they were there for the next four days with dryers and dehumidifiers and everything that they needed to make sure my basement was safe and not going to grow mold and I really appreciate everything that they did. In today's environment these guys are second to none. We had a mold issue, our furnace vents were cleaned, and the outside of our siding and gutters were cleaned up after mold. They really made it "Like it never even happened."
