Knightstown was settled in 1819 and it is located in Henry County Indiana. Knightstown lies along the banks of the Big Blue River. This historic town continued to grow, and then thrive when The Old National Road (US 40) and several railways were built through town. Being settled on these major thoroughfares, Knightstown residents were able to prosper as one of Henry County’s preeminent communities. More recently, Knightstown shone brightly when the local Knightstown Gym was used as a film location for the movie Hoosiers staring Gene Hackman. Today it is known as The Hoosier Gym.
There are several historical locations in and around Knightstown. The downtown district was designated a historic district in 1985. In 2018 the Glen Cove Cemetery was added to the National Register of Historic Places, and there are many homes throughout the community that are designated as historical sites.
